Dr. Tom Carlos
Thomas Carlos, DVM MS, otherwise known as “Dr. Tom” graduated from the University of the Philippines in 1985, then obtained his Masters Degree in Surgery and Medicine from Auburn University. Dr. Carlos did an internship at the American Animal Hospital in Chicago.
In 1990, he opened his first veterinary practice in the Florida panhandle and has since opened and maintained several veterinary hospitals throughout the state. He is an avid tennis player, fisherman, diver and Doggie Dad to Zoe & Darla.
Dr. Laurie Aleixo
Laurie Aleixo DVM, otherwise known as “Dr. Laurie” graduated from UC Davis in 1999. She owned her clinic in California for 14 years, before moving to Florida. She enjoys working with all animals, working part-time with Harbor Branch, as the on-call veterinarian for cetacean strandings. She also volunteers for FWC with the rescue and release of manatees. She currently has 3 rescue dogs, but at one point she had 8 dogs, 2 cats, fish, and a squirrel. She is an avid scuba diver, paddle boarder and loves spending time with her husband and 2 sons.
Dr. Kristy Pilkerton
Kristy Pilkerton DVM, otherwise known as “Dr. Kristy” has been in the veterinary industry for over 21 years and joined our team in July 2021. Dr. Kristy grew up in Orange Beach, Alabama. After high school, she played softball at the University of Alabama in Hunstville prior to attending Auburn University where she completed both her Bachelor of Science and Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. She has since practiced in Tennessee, Kentucky and Florida. During her time in Kentucky, Dr. Kristy had the opportunity to teach various skills labs at Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine. Once in Florida she expanded her skills in emergency, internal medicine and surgery while working at Animal Emergency and Referral Center for 3 years. During that time, she was able to complete her training to become a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist through the Canine Rehab Institute. Dr. Kristy worked relief for us for several years prior to joining our practice full time in the summer of 2021. Dr. Kristy still enjoys playing softball with her local community team and has picked up scuba diving since moving to Florida. She shares her home with two dogs named Amaretto and Remington, and also a cat named Pygmie.
JoAnna is also known to many as Jo and has worked in the veterinary industry since 2016. Starting her career as a Receptionist, she worked her way to being a Manager before joining our hospital in 2018. She shares her home with a German Shepherd/Pit Mix named Major and two cats, named Crash and Haze. Her favorite part of the job is meeting new people and getting to know their furry family members.
Izabel has been in the veterinary industry for over 3 years. She has a Pitbull/Catahoula Mix dog named Blue, a Labrador dog named Faith, 2 Turtles named Bean and Tomato and 3 Pug dogs named Sui, Lui and Chui. Her favorite part of the job is getting to spend the whole day using her knowledge and passion for the industry when interacting directly with the animals and their owners.
Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT)
Kelly has been in the veterinary industry for over a year. She has an American Bully dog named Helmet, a Labrador/Pitbull Mix dog named Hailey and 2 Domestic Short Hair cats named Holly and Brave. She also has 2 snakes, a Kenyan Sand Boa and Western Hognose.
Victoria has been a Veterinary Assistant since 2015 and graduated in 2018 from Miami Dade College with an Associates in Science in Veterinary Technology. She has a Lab/Curr Mix dog named Flynn and a Dwarf Hamster named Jelly. Her favorite part of the job is interacting with clients and their pets. When she is not busy at work, Victoria enjoys eating, cooking for her friends and spending time with family.
Yvette has been in the veterinary industry since 2015. She first joined us in 2018 and then move away down south before returning to us once again June 2021. Her favorite part of the job is helping fur babies stay healthy or helping them get better. She also enjoys being able to get to know her patients individually, running lab work and assisting during surgeries. She shares her home with her daughter and two dogs, a Boxer named Diesel and a Pit Bull named Letty.
Shannon has been in the veterinary industry (and a part of the PVAH team) since 2020. Shannon’s favorite part of the job is interacting with our clients and their pets. She enjoys helping them receive the best veterinary care to keep them happy and healthy as possible. She shares her home with a Mini Golden Doodle named Kaia.
